Our Reindeer Princess

Hi Everyone,

I have really wanted to use a 12 x 12 transparency on a layout.  I took the opportunity on the Helmar Blog to use a product that I have never used before and that was the

This is a picture of my neice "Tayla" from Christmas 2009.  SO CUTE!!  I have used a 12 x 12 transparency and a piece of 12 x 12 co-ordinating paper underneath.  I sprayed the Helmar V2 Vellum Spray on the paper and layed the transparency over the top.  You need to keep this on a flat surface until it has completely dried.

I always lay my page out first, working on all the embellishments I want.  I wanted to do something different, so I gathered some similar coloured beads and I twisted wire through them to give me a unique handmade embellishment.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.  I hope your day is filled with family, friends, food and laughter.

Thank you so much for your support and the lovely comments you leave for me on my blog.

Helmar Monthly Sketch Challenge

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to share with you the page I have made using the lovely Lydell Quinn's sketch.  This is the Helmar Monthly Sketch Challenge.

I really enjoyed doing the page.  I got to emboss, use my favourite charcoal pencil, some Dusty Attic buttons, hessian, ink and of course some Helmar adhesives.  I used lots of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots Adhesive on this page to give dimension.

Here are some close-ups:

So why not head over to the Helmar Blog and give this Monthly Sketch Challenge a go.  You will be in the running to win some awesome Helmar Goodies!!

This is what the sketch looks like.

Don't forget this is totally your interpretation of the sketch, you can rotate it, flip it.  Would love to see what you come up with.

Have a very Merry Christmas!!

Thanks for your support, and all the lovely comments you leave.

My First Christmas

Hi There,

I love Christmas, but I have never scrapped a Christmas page before.  How weird is that?  So I found myself working on the December Challenge for Scrap the Boys.  I had SOOOO much fun.  It took me a good week to do this page.  I worked on little pieces of the page every day.  This is what I came up with:

There are elements of this page which were trademark me, but I found myself totally entranced in the art of this.  A little paint here, a little button there.  This photo of my little man Lucas really inspired me.

For this chipboard title I painted it first.  Then I used Glossy Accents to make the work Christmas shiny.  I used Red Glitter Stickles on the rest.

For something a little different, I journalled around the outside of the embellishments and photo.

The best part of it was the tree. I had a chipboard three cut like that and it was coloured. I wanted to give it a little makeover. I cut up buttons and stuck them on. I was in Helmar Heaven. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

I think I now just want to cut buttons for everything.  It was extremely therapeutic!!

And where would my page be without a tear???  And a christmas decoration to hang from it!

Thanks for checking out my page!!

Head on over to Scrap the Boys and have a go at the December Challenge!!  Would love to see what you come up with.

Happy Christmas

Simple Boys Layout

Have you ever wanted to keep it simple, well this is my attempt at using a pack that I had and that is all!! No adding on, which for me was very hard. I overthink, everything.
But not this time!!!

This page is based around a photo of my boy Jackson. He has this laugh that is amazing and totally cheeky, but very infectious. Because it was such a great photo I wanted to keep my layout nice and simple as to not take away from the picture.

I have used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to give some dimension to the transparency cogs on this page. I have distressed the edge on the Navy Cardstock. I like to map out my page and if I put something in the right hand corner I will do it again in the left hand opposite corner. Just to keep my page balanced.

The Silver Cogs are a die cut paper, so easy and so effective. I have glued them down with Helmar Acid Free Glue. I used this same glue on eveything else on the page.
I finished off the page with some eyelets to add some metal and a metallic pen to box the page in with a frame. Here are some close-ups:

It is was fun to try and just use two colors on a page. Blue and Silver.
Once I lay everything on the page, the glueing is the fun bit.

Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget sometimes it is fun to Keep It Simple!
Time to get your Glue On!!

Inspired

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to show you a canvas that I worked on this week whilst watching Helmar Live on Ustream with Tracy Weinzapfel.

I have been watching this live show for about a month and a half now and I would have to say that it has become the highlight to my week.  I have watched Tracy make tags, heart canvases and this is what she made this week:

We watch and chat and play along.  I find myself totally inspired and feel like I have become a part of a larger scrapbooking family.  It really does mean the world to me as these gorgeous people just get me.  It is about making myself happy, and with two children at home life can become a little thankless.  As much I love my family, I still need some me time.

So I find myself at home on a Tuesday (Monday night in America), I get the kids lunch a little earlier and put them down for a nap.  And I just get to play and laugh and smile.

This is what I did this week, so totally inspired by Tracy!

I never in a million years would have imagined myself doing a canvas.  I am a scrapbook layout kind of girl.  But now I am thinking cards, stamps, canvas's, gifts the list of ideas is endless.  I am using watercolor crayons and charcoal pencils and loving every minute.

All because of my mentor Tracy and the Helmar Girls.
You all truly inspire me.
Very lucky to be a part of this amazing team!

Renee xoxo

P.S. Should I have music playing in the background and white dove's flying around the screen!!!  Bahaha

Father and Son

Hi There Eveyone,

Today I am going to show you a page I have put together for The Color Room.

I started off glueing the zip with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive because I wanted it to dry fast. I then tore into the page like the zip had just gone through it. Starting smaller so that I can tear a little more each time until I got it right. I then used the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to glue the chipboard heading.

The cogs are a mixture of paint, raw chipboard and embossing using Opals. Remember with the opals you need to keep more on the chipboard as it is slightly thicker and you will need the coverage. The cogs are all glued using my personal favourite Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. I could play with this glue all day. ( Is it weird that I like the smell as well!!! LOL) This gave everything the dimension I was after, including my photo and the frame also.

I used Helmar Acid Free Glue to adhere the barb wire chipboard and the doily trim. With the quote I have used I sprayed Silver Glimmermist on some white A4 cardboard and then put it through my printer when it dried.

To finish this whole project I have gone round the whole page with the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and let the twine fall naturally on it to give it a wavy effect.
Here are some close-ups.

Father-and-Son---Close-Ups

Once again I am just so honored to be part of this amazing Helmar Design Team and I cannot wait to create my next project.  My brain is swirling with so many ideas!

Father-and-Son---Glue-Photo

Thanks so much for coming by and checking this out! Time to get your glue on!!

Let Me Hear You Say COWBOYS

Hey There,

First I must start by saying how lucky I am today!!  I won the Chip Chop Shop $50.00 worth of embellishments.  So excited I love everything that Leeann has for sale over there.  So pop on over and check it out.

This is my latest page for Scrap the Boys .  The November Challenge was to

**SHOW US YOUR COLOURS**
We have recently had the AFL & NRL grand finals, the Rugby World Cup, the US Open etc so this month we want a layout of your boys or men showing their colours.
Please note that it does not have to be limited to footy or rugby, it can also include soccer, Touch Footy, Cricket, Tennis and sport that your child or hubby loves but you MUST make sure you have a photo of them in their colours!

Here is my page!

Let me tell you right now, it took me three days to hand stitch everything!! lol I have used some Doily Trims from the Chip Chop Shop and that gorgeous big yellow button is from their also.

Also, in my excitement I have been using Helmar Tiger Grip glue on everything, and this week I got my hands on Scrap Dots!  I don't know how I have lived without it!

Thanks for checking out my page!

Mwah!

Leeann Pearce is my scrapbooking Hero and I love all of her work.  My wish is that I can one day accomplish what she has and hopefully inspire someone myself!!

Handsome Boy

Hi There,

This layout below is a photo of my little man Jackson.  This photo was taken just before he went to his first kindy disco!!

I have done this layout for the White With 1 October Challenge.  This month it is Black and White with Mists and Paints.

I have misted the bricks on the background.  The numbers on the bottom left and top right are stamped and then I have used Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder.  I have used texture paste on the bricks and painted them.  The heading is also painted.  I have used a Charms Creations black and white lollipop.

Here are some close-ups:

Had loads of fun making this page.  And a fabulous challenge to only use 2 colours!

Thanks for checking out my page.

So Cute!!

Hello There,

A quick blog today.  This is a page I entered for a Guest Designer Spot with Echo Park products through Aussie Scrap Source.

You had to use a large portion of Echo Park product of course.  I love Echo Park because of the bright colours they use.  The road on the bottom of the page was made from Texture Paste and Chalkboard Mist - Charcoal, so it looks like a real road close-up.

It is always a challenge for me to stick to the one product but I had fun and Lucas is so cute in this photo.  Don't know if you noticed but there is a trademark bruise on his head from falling over.  He has absolutely NO fear!!

Well done to Fiona Lally who won the guest designer spot for Echo Park with her page.

Thanks for checking out my page!!

Two in One Week!!

I am on fire this week.  Two layouts in one week.  Really wanted to get this layout done for the Colour Room.  This is the palette we had to work with:

Now I am so not used to these colors because we all know I love to do boys pages.  This is what I came up with:

This is a photo of my cousin Nicole, my nanna and my Aunty Pam, who has since passed away from Cancer.  This is the last photo I have of her and it is a very special photo to me.

I have stamped in the background.  I made the deep cornflower blue flower from ribbon onto a Gluber.  The Dusty Attic chipboard I painted with white crackle paint and then misted.  The two buttons are from Purple Pumpkin.

Thanks for checking out my page again!!

We Are A Family

Hello Everyone,

Today has been a very hard day.  We lost a fellow scrapbooker last week, and today, at her funeral, it just re-instated for me how much of a family our scrapbooking community is.  We stick together and provide support as well as share our lives with each other.  I wouldn't want it any other way!!  We are one big Family.

On a lighter note, I have my design team challenge for Scrap The Boys.  This months challenge is to use a handmade embellishment.  You can also use an embellishment from one of the following Brands:  Lil Red Rocket, A Lil Something, Greatest View, Charms Creations, Chelley Bean Designs and there are many, many more...

Here is my page:

The photos for this page were from a trip to Airlie Beach with family.  My sister-in-law Katrina and her fiance Tom are both in the Navy and participated in the Anzac Day march there.  My boys, Jackson and Lucas had a little dress-up time with their Navy Hats and I took some photos.

I have hand made the flag banner with fabric and twine.  I have also used a spotted button from Purple Pumpkin.  They have some fabulous buttons and handmade embellishments.

I stamped the stars in the background with White Opals Embossing Powder and then misted over the top.  I hand stitched the border. I used a Dusty Attic Chipboard Anchor and knotted twine to create some chain to hang the anchor.

Thanks for checking out my page.

Rest in Peace Larnie and Matthew.

Life is too short.  Cherish your friends and family always!

Love Renee xo

My First Design Team Challenge

Hi There,

This is my first design team challenge for Scrap The Boys.  We had to use household/family ephemera on your layouts. Now this can be anything from clothing labels, toy packaging, gift cards or cards from birthdays, ticket stubs etc....

This is what I came up with:

I used a photo of my eldest boy Jackson, who is wearing Mambo.  I love their clothes because they are so bright and colourful.  I kept the tag from one of his shirts with scrapbooking in mind, of course!!  I also snibbed the fabric Mambo tag from an old shirt.

I used oil crayons around the outside of the page and smudged it a little.  I used a Hambly Screen Print Brick Wall and Glimmermist in the background.  I used a stamp in the bottom left corner.

Thanks for checking out my page!!

Beautiful Day

Hey There Everyone,

It is such a beautiful sunny day here in North Queensland!!

This is my entry for the Scrap The Boys July Competition, but I am also going to apply for their design team.  We all know how many boys pages I do and I would love to be apart of a team which truly inspires me.  The monthly challenges are also a great chance to try new techniques and get some pages done!!

This is definately a super bright and colourful page!!  For the competition you had to use the word "Play" somewhere in the title and use tape.  I have used the 7Gypsies tissue tape on my page.  It fitted in perfectly!!

Super excited about applying for this design team.  So cross your fingers and toes for me!!

Thanks again for checking out my page!!

So Excited!! Maybe It Will Happen.....

Hi There Everyone,

This week has had me inspired all over again!!

There is a possibility that Scrapbooking Memories might be going to publish one of my pages........for the first time ever...........so very exciting.  I have sent it off and I have fingers crossed that they will be happy to put it in their magazine!!

This week I had a chance to do something that I have always wanted to but just never got around to it.

The Sassafras Lass Monthly Challenge.

This month you had to use more than one collection on the same page.

I have used Monstosity, Apple Jack and Anthem Collections.
I splatted paint on the background.
I used Sassafrass Embellishments:
Felties
Lettering
Stickers
Cards
Banners
I do love all things Sassafrass!!!  Had so much fun making this page.
The clouds are Dusty Attic chipboard left untouched.
I am also going to enter this page into the Dusty Attic Birthday Challenge #3

Thanks so much for checking out my page!!

Until next time......

It's Winter Time!

Hello everyone,

It is most definately Winter here in Mackay!!  Cannot remember it being this cold in a while.  Which of course means that the flu bug has swept through our house and knocked me for a sixer!!!
Not feeling very flash at all!!
With all the extra time on my hands I have been trying to rest, doing a little scrapping and going to bed early!  And looking after my two little men and one big man!!

This is the June Sketch for Dusty Attic for this month:

Really love this sketch and here is my entry for this challenge:

This is a photo of my little boy Lucas.  He is on grandads farm.  As soon as I saw the sketch I knew that I wanted to do this page.  I have used Dusty Attic Chipboard Windmill - DA0061 x 2 and Paddock Fence Large - DA0401 and Paddock Fence Small - DA0402.

I have stamped around the edges of the page.  On the windmills I have used crackle paint and then gone over them with copper metallic ink.  The fences I have used glimmermist and then used twine to make the fencing look authentic and then used a black pen to give the fence some patterns to make it look like the grains of the wood.  The grass is Prima Hessian leaves cut in two and then layered.  I have used Jenni Bowlin corrugated lettering and Prima lettering.

Thanks for checking out my page!!

So Excited

Hey There,

Two in one day, this was so much fun.  This is my entry for this months
Dusty Attic Sketch Challenge.

This is a photo of Lucas, my youngest boy.  He gives me this look when he is up to something and then wants to get away with it.  Totally cute!!

I have used Dusty Attic Chipboard - Park Bench - DA0265 which I have painted.

I took a photo of Lucas on a similar seat we have at home and then cut around it so it looks like he is actually sitting on the chair.

The Hot Air Balloon and Clouds are from "the Chip Chop Shop" which I have been dying to use!  So many yummy embellishments to choose from!

Happy Days

This morning I came downstairs with my cuppa, into my scrapbooking office.  Receiving my emails I wondered how busy I was going to be today.  And there it was, on my colour room entry for this week, a comment from my two idols, Michelle Grant and Leann Pearce.  Doing a happy jig I continued through my emails to see that Leanne had left a message on my blog and she has become a follower!!!  WOW!  I really don't things could get any better!  Totally made my day if not my week!!

This weeks page is another duel entry.  I have used this week colour room palette and I am also going to enter this page into the Scrap the Boys blog competition which is all about your son or husbands collection.  Needless to say Jackson loves his dinosaurs, and what a fun page to scrap!

I have distressed the edges with my new Distrezz-it-all Tool from Zutter and Donna Salazar, and can I just say my girlfriends laughed when I pulled this out as I have become the tool queen!! Then about a minute later, Loren is using it and having so much fun she has chewed up half a page!!!

I have used heshian, gauze that is misted, real rocks from the drive-way (shhhhh don't tell my husband!) I have used some Basic Grey embellishment and dinosaurs from the Archaic Range, eyelets and twine, and some rub-ons.  I used three different mists which I sprayed really close to the page and then just let them run down.

Had loads of fun catching up with friends and heaps of fun with this page.

Thanks for checking out my page!

Cute

Hey There,

This week I set myself two challenges that I have worked into one layout.  Firstly, I have entered the Color Room again, with pastel colors that I loved.  Then I have entered the Dusty Attic Inspiration Challenge, inspired by Emeline's style.  This is what I have come up with:

This is a photo of my best friend Kerryn's gorgeous little girl "Imogen".  It was just the perfect photo for this color challenge.  I have used Dusty Attic chipboard - Ferns and Scroll #3.  I have used Leanne Pearce's Chip Chop Shop Little Birdy and Button.  Prima flowers and a butterfly charm.  Websters Pages trim and several different punches.

The background was achieved by using a doodling template and water color crayons.  I then whitewashed over the top. Emeline's style is about punches, flower cut outs and clusters of flowers.

The best thing is that I had fun scrapping with friends which is what life is all about!

Thanks for checking out my blog!!

Easter Break

Well I hope everyone enjoyed some time off and hopefully got some chocolate from the Easter Bunny!!  We have had my sister-in-law home from the Navy and had lots of family time which has been so nice.

But I have had time to do some scrapbooking too!!  This weeks entry into the Color Room.

It is a photo of my husband Adrian and his late grandad Ray.  It is a Treasured Moment in Time and a very special photo. This has been my very first Heritage page.

I have stamped, inked, masked, misted, painted.  I scrunched alot of the paper to give it an aged look.

I used Tim Holtz photo tape and the key is also a Tim Holtz key and some 7 Gypsies tissue tape.

Thanks for checking my page out!!  Now to clean up my mess!!!
